ESTABLISHED IN JAPAN 1947

At the end of the 1940s, when it was almost impossible to get high quality Jeans in Japan, Tsunemi Yonehachi first began importing vintage Jeans from the United States and started selling them refurbished. Soon the companies own Jeans were being made from original American denim.

From the very beginning, Edwin's commitment was to ensure the best possible quality. In 1963, the heaviest denim to date was produced in Japan at 16 oz. The distinctive, three-coloured rainbow selvage denim underlined the individuality and special quality of Edwin denims, which from then on also adorned the denims as a trademark. Edwin's special qualities were not the only reason it went down in the history books of denim manufacturers. From 1970 onwards, Edwin began working on the vintage treatment of denim, which ultimately led to the development of stonewash. A revolutionary trend that is still used by all manufacturers worldwide today. Even further refined, the special Edwin washes and treatments are now considered to be the most detailed and authentic on the market.
